Par Puzzle | “Out in the Open”
~77 Silhouettes
~44 1/2″ x 24 1/2″ x
Par Time: Don’t even ask!
circa 1969? (Based on custom piece)
This is the largest Par Puzzle we recall selling. It’s also one of the finest we’ve seen, probably a Top 10 of all the Pars we’ve had in. The gorgeous irregular edge cut and interesting image start things off. But it doesn’t stop there. This was cut with maximum thought made to the design of the pieces and the way the puzzle flows. Numerous line cuts will keep you wondering what goes where, not to mention the great array of silhouette pieces.
The artist is James McIntosh Patrick (1907-1998), a Scottish painter known for his landscapes. The image is of Braemer Castle in Scotland, constructed in 1628. From research we have done it was probably painted specifically for a travel poster for the London North Eastern Railway and London Midland Scottish. It is titled “Royal Deeside” and was painted in 1937.
In exceptional condition, one of the best condition Pars we have come across. The only issue we located was a very small knick on the top layer of one piece on the edge (see pic). Only other thing is top of lid is a little scuffed up.
